24kV Three-Core Cold Shrink Straight-Through Joint
- 24kV three-core cold shrink straight-through joint kit for 12/20(24)kV XLPE-insulated power cables.
- Available in five conductor cross-section ranges: 25–50, 70–120, 150–240, 300–400 and 500–630 mm².
- Used to join two lengths of three-core medium-voltage cable, with separate jointing arrangements for the three conductors.
- Cold shrink components contract without external heating; conductor connections, insulation dimensions and metallic screen arrangements must match the cable construction.
- Suitable for consideration in medium-voltage feeder extension and cable section replacement projects, subject to installation and environmental requirements.
Three Electrical Connections, One Cable Joint Assembly
A damaged section of three-core medium-voltage cable cannot be repaired by restoring the conductor connections alone. The cable insulation, metallic screening and outer protective layers also have to be addressed. Each conductor has its own electrical joint, but all three connections must be accommodated within the completed cable assembly.
RIKI’s 24kV cold shrink straight-through joint range is intended for joining two lengths of 12/20(24)kV XLPE-insulated three-core power cable. The illustrated kit contains three individual black cold shrink joint sleeves, reflecting the separate treatment of the three cable cores. Five conductor-size selections cover 25–50 mm² through 500–630 mm².
One Jointing Location, Three Cable Cores
Preparing a three-core joint means opening the cable construction on both sides of the connection. The three conductors must be accessible for their individual connections, while sufficient space is retained for the required insulation and screening arrangements. The preparation lengths and relative positions of the joints are determined by the installation instructions, not by simply cutting all three cores at a convenient point.
The cold shrink components are supplied in an expanded condition and recover around the prepared connection after their temporary supports are removed. No external heat is needed for this contraction. Correct surface preparation, dimensional fit and component positioning remain essential to the finished assembly.
The Two Cable Ends Must Be Compatible
A cable replacement project may involve joining an existing feeder to a newly supplied cable. Although both cables may carry the same voltage designation and conductor cross-section, their insulation diameters, metallic screens, armour arrangements or outer sheath dimensions may differ.
Such differences affect the complete joint design. Metallic screen continuity, earthing arrangements and outer sheath restoration should be considered alongside the conductor connectors and cold shrink insulation components. The kit selection must account for the actual construction of both cables rather than treating all three-core XLPE cables of the same nominal size as interchangeable.
Procurement Begins with the Cable Data, Not the Kit Photograph
For a three-core cold shrink splice enquiry, provide the voltage designation, conductor material and cross-section, insulation outside diameter, metallic screen construction and armour details for both cable ends. Confirm the conductor connector type, required screen and sheath restoration arrangements, and whether the installation will be inside an enclosure, cable duct or another environment.
The published conductor-size ranges identify the available product selections. Final compatibility and the exact accessory package require confirmation against the supplied cable data and installation conditions.

Installation environment and any required sealing or mechanical protection must be confirmed separately.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does a three-core straight joint require three separate conductor connections?
Yes. A three-core straight-through joint reconnects each of the three conductors across the cable break; the final assembly also needs appropriate insulation and screening restoration. The catalog identifies a three-core joint kit, but it does not establish whether the conductor connectors or every bonding accessory are included. Confirm the bill of materials before ordering.
Can the joint connect an existing three-core cable to a replacement cable from another manufacturer?
Potentially, but matching voltage and conductor area is not enough. Both cable datasheets should be checked for insulation outside diameter, cable screen design, armour construction and sheath dimensions. If the ends differ, the required joint and connector configuration should be reviewed as a transition application rather than assumed to fit a standard straight joint.
Must the three conductor joints be positioned at the same point along the cable?
Do not determine the positions from the product photograph or a generic splice diagram. The three conductor cut lengths and connection positions must follow the instructions for the selected kit, with adequate room for the insulation and screening components. Incorrect preparation lengths can leave insufficient working space or prevent the joint assembly from fitting as intended.
Can the same kit handle copper wire screens and steel tape armour?
Not automatically. Metallic screens and armour perform different electrical and mechanical functions, and the method used to restore or bond them depends on cable construction. Identify the type and cross-section of metallic screen and the armour arrangement on both cable ends. The standard size table does not specify a universal bonding package for every combination.
