1kV Five-Core Cold Shrink Straight Joint
- Cold shrink straight-through cable joint for 0.6/1kV five-core power cables with XLPE or rubber insulation.
- Available for conductor cross-sections of 10–16, 25–50, 70–120, 150–240 and 300–400 mm².
- Designed for joining two lengths of five-core cable along a continuous low-voltage power circuit.
- Cold shrink sleeves allow installation without a heat gun; cable dimensions and conductor connections must be matched to the selected kit.
A Five-Core Cable Joint Selected by Cable Construction, Not Just Voltage
Five-core power cables are not always built with five conductors of identical cross-section. Some cable configurations use a reduced neutral or protective conductor, which makes conductor arrangement an important part of joint selection.
This RIKI cold shrink straight-through joint range is intended for 0.6/1kV XLPE and rubber-insulated five-core power cables. Five size selections cover conductor cross-sections of 10–16, 25–50, 70–120, 150–240 and 300–400 mm². Each selection has its own ordering code, allowing distributors and cable contractors to identify the appropriate size range rather than relying on the voltage rating alone.
The cold shrink method uses pre-expanded insulating sleeves that contract around the prepared cable when their temporary supports are removed. This avoids heating the sleeves during installation. Correct conductor connections, cable preparation and assembly procedures remain essential.
For a straight-through cable joint, the objective is to reconnect two cable lengths along an existing power circuit. It is not the same as a cable termination used at the end of a cable run. Before ordering, review the cable’s conductor arrangement, insulation dimensions, connector requirements and installation environment. A matching cross-section is necessary, but it does not establish compatibility with every cable construction.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I choose the correct size for a five-core cable?
Start with the conductor cross-section shown on the cable schedule, then check whether all five cores use the same size. The range is divided into five conductor-size brackets, so a nominal 1kV rating alone is not sufficient for kit selection. If the neutral or protective conductor is smaller, provide the full cable construction for confirmation.
Will this joint work with both XLPE- and rubber-insulated cables?
The 0.6/1kV cold shrink range is listed for both XLPE and rubber-insulated power cables. Compatibility still depends on the particular cable construction, including insulation and sheath dimensions after preparation. A match in voltage and conductor cross-section does not, by itself, establish that every cable design can use the same set of components.
Is this a termination kit or a straight-through splice?
It is a straight-through joint intended to reconnect two cable lengths in line. A termination kit serves a different purpose: preparing a cable end for connection at equipment or another interface. For maintenance work, identify whether the task is a mid-run cable joint or an end termination before selecting the accessory.
Does installation require a torch or a heat gun?
The cold shrink sleeves do not need a torch or heat gun to contract. They are installed by withdrawing the temporary support after positioning, allowing the expanded sleeve to recover around the prepared cable. Connector fitting, insulation preparation and the order of assembly still need to follow the instructions for the supplied kit.
Can the joint be buried or installed in a wet area?
Do not determine underground or wet-location suitability from the 0.6/1kV marking alone. The complete joint system, its sealing arrangement and any required mechanical protection must match the installation environment. If the project involves direct burial, standing water or an enclosure with restricted access, confirm those conditions before the kit is specified.
