10kV Single-Core Heat Shrink Straight-Through Joint
- 10kV single-core heat shrink straight-through joint kit for 6/10kV and 8.7/10kV XLPE-insulated power cables.
- Four conductor cross-section selections: 25–50, 70–120, 150–240 and 300–500 mm².
- Intended for in-line cable splicing where the conductor connection, electrical insulation, metallic screen and protective covering must be restored.
- Heat shrink joint components require controlled heating during installation; connector dimensions and the construction of both cable ends must be verified.
A 10kV Cable Splice Is a Reconstruction of the Original Cable System
Consider a feeder repair in which the damaged section has already been removed. The replacement conductor can be connected, but the cable cannot be returned to service simply by insulating the metal connector. The prepared ends also interrupt the cable’s semiconductive screens, metallic shielding and outer protective sheath.
The RIKI 10kV single-core heat shrink straight-through joint is offered for 6/10kV and 8.7/10kV XLPE-insulated power cables. Its four conductor-size selections cover 25–50, 70–120, 150–240 and 300–500 mm². The kit uses heat-recoverable components to form the required jointing arrangement around a prepared in-line connection.
At the Conductor Connection
The conductor connector forms the electrical path between the two cable lengths. Its material compatibility, barrel or connector dimensions and approved installation method need to be established before the cable ends are prepared. A connector that fits the conductor cross-section electrically may still create dimensional difficulties for the insulation components surrounding it.
The supplied product image shows several sleeves and accessories, but the exact connector specification and whether a conductor connector is included must be confirmed in the order configuration. The photograph should not be used as a complete bill of materials.
Across the Screen Ends
Medium-voltage cable insulation operates together with conductive screening layers. Once those layers are removed near the splice, the electric field distribution changes. A suitable joint must provide the required electrical stress-control arrangement at the screen transitions and around the connector area.
These functions cannot be established from the outer diameter of the black tubing alone. The cable insulation outside diameter, the preparation dimensions and the relevant joint component specification must be matched. Metallic-screen restoration and bonding requirements also depend on whether the original cable uses copper wires, copper tape or another screen design.
At the Outside of the Finished Joint
The protective outer arrangement addresses a different requirement: covering the completed electrical joint and restoring the relevant environmental and mechanical protection. The illustrated kit contains two long black tubes along with smaller sleeves and other accessories. Their exact assembly order and functions should be determined from the product-specific installation instructions.
Heat shrink materials recover under applied heat. Correct recovery depends on following the required heating method, component positioning and cooling procedure. The catalog does not establish that every configuration is suitable for direct burial, permanent immersion or a particular water-ingress classification.
When the Two Cables Are Not Identical
A maintenance contractor may need to connect a new XLPE cable to an older cable made by another manufacturer. Both ends may have the same nominal voltage and conductor cross-section, yet differ in insulation diameter, metallic-screen construction or sheath thickness.
For this type of enquiry, submit the datasheets for both cable ends. Identify any difference in conductor material, insulation dimensions, screening and connector requirements. A standard conductor-size selection does not automatically qualify the kit for every transition between cable constructions.
For purchasing: Specify the complete cable voltage designation, conductor size and material, insulation outside diameter, metallic screen details, connector arrangement and installation environment. The final package should be reviewed against the cable data before the material schedule is approved.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are the two large black tubes shown in the joint kit photograph?
The photograph shows two large black tubes and several smaller components used in the jointing arrangement. Their precise functions, overlapping dimensions and installation sequence must be identified from the instructions and bill of materials for the supplied kit. The photograph alone cannot confirm which component provides each insulation, sealing or protective function.
Can the joint connect two XLPE cables with different insulation diameters?
A transition between different insulation diameters requires a separate compatibility check. Even when both cables have the same voltage designation and conductor cross-section, their prepared insulation dimensions may differ. Provide both cable datasheets, the connector specification and the relevant screen dimensions. Do not assume that a standard conductor-size range automatically covers a dimensional transition.
How is metallic-screen continuity addressed across a single-core joint?
The metallic-screen arrangement must be restored or bonded according to the cable construction and approved joint design. Copper wire screens, copper tape screens and other configurations may require different accessories. Identify the screen material, construction and cross-section on both cable ends before ordering. The catalog size table does not establish a universal bonding configuration.
Is the conductor connector included in every size of this joint kit?
Connector inclusion is not confirmed by the published size table or product photograph. Before ordering, specify the conductor material, cross-section, required connector type and installation method. The connector dimensions also affect the fit of the surrounding joint components. Request a confirmed bill of materials for the selected size rather than assuming every kit includes the same connection accessories.
