Five Insulated Connections Beneath One Heat Shrink Joint Cover

A five-core cable joint has two levels of work. Each conductor needs its own electrical connection and insulation, while the completed group of connections must be protected as part of a single cable assembly. The outer covering cannot replace the individual insulation required around each connected core.

The RIKI 1kV five-core heat shrink straight-through joint range provides five conductor-size selections, from 10–16 mm² to 300–500 mm². The product arrangement shown includes five smaller black sleeves and a longer outer tube. These components illustrate the distinction between treating individual conductor connections and covering the completed joint area.

Individual Core Insulation Comes Before the Outer Covering

At a straight-through joint, the five conductors are connected to their corresponding conductors on the opposite cable end. Their individual insulation arrangements must be completed without interfering with adjacent connections. The prepared cable layout needs enough room for the specified sleeves and the final outer covering.

The component arrangement also affects the space occupied by the completed joint. Connection positions, conductor preparation lengths and the required tubing overlaps must follow the supplied installation instructions. A longer outer tube does not compensate for an incorrectly prepared conductor connection.

Heating Is Part of the Installation Process

Heat shrink tubing is manufactured in an expanded condition and contracts when heated appropriately. Installation therefore requires a suitable heating method rather than simply positioning the tubes around the cable. Controlled, even heating is important for the tubing to recover around the intended surfaces.

Uneven heating can leave areas insufficiently recovered or damage the material through overheating. For this reason, the actual heating procedure, working distances and component sequence should be taken from the instructions supplied with the kit. The product photograph alone is not an installation guide.

Check the Cable Construction Behind the Five-Core Description

Five-core power cables can differ in conductor arrangement, insulation dimensions and outer sheath construction. A cable with a reduced neutral or protective conductor may require additional attention when determining how the individual connections are insulated.

The catalog provides five nominal conductor-size groups. These should be used together with the full cable specification, conductor material and intended connection arrangement. For armoured cable applications, the armour restoration and bonding requirements must also be established; the published size table does not confirm a universal armour accessory package.

When requesting a quotation, the most useful information is the cable designation, conductor cross-sections, conductor material, cable outside diameter and expected installation environment. The final kit configuration should be agreed before bulk supply, particularly where sealing or mechanical protection is specified by the project.

The listed conductor-size selections follow the RIKI 1kV heat shrink cable accessory catalog. Final kit selection must account for the actual cable construction, conductor connections and required installation protection. The tubing shown in the product photograph does not establish the complete bill of materials or a specific environmental protection rating.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why are there five smaller tubes and a larger tube in the product image?

The five smaller sleeves correspond to the individual conductor insulation positions, while the longer tube is used for the outer joint covering. Each conductor connection needs to be dealt with separately before the completed cable assembly is covered. The photograph identifies the tubing arrangement, but it does not confirm the complete connector, sealing or armour-restoration package.

Can I shrink all the tubes in a single heating step?

No fixed installation sequence should be inferred from the photograph. The core insulation components and outer covering are fitted at different stages according to the kit instructions. Heating must be controlled and even, with appropriate attention to nearby insulation and any heat-sensitive components. Follow the supplied installation procedure rather than using a general temperature or heating time.

Does the 300–500 mm² option also cover a 500 mm² conductor?

The catalog lists 300–500 mm² as one conductor-size selection, so 500 mm² falls at the upper end of that nominal bracket. This does not by itself establish compatibility with every cable of that area. Confirm the conductor type, connector dimensions, insulation diameter and overall joint geometry before finalizing the corresponding order.

Is the kit suitable for steel-wire-armoured cable?

Armoured cable suitability cannot be established from the five-core designation or the visible tubing alone. Steel-wire-armoured cable may need additional components and installation procedures to restore armour continuity, bonding and mechanical protection. Provide the cable construction and installation requirements with the enquiry so the exact supply arrangement can be checked before the kit is approved.

Are conductor connectors included in the kit?

The supplied image and catalog size table do not establish that conductor connectors are included. Connector selection depends on conductor material, cross-section and the approved connection method. Confirm the bill of materials when requesting a quotation, including whether connectors, sealing products and armour accessories must be ordered separately.
