10kV Single-Core Cold Shrink Indoor Termination Kit
- Indoor cold shrink termination kit for 8.7/10kV single-core XLPE-insulated power cables.
- Five conductor-size selections from 25–50 mm² through 500–630 mm².
- Intended for prepared cable ends connected to suitable indoor medium-voltage electrical equipment.
- Cold shrink installation requires no applied heat for sleeve contraction; cable insulation diameter, screen cutback and terminal connection dimensions remain essential selection checks.
Indoor Cable Termination: From the Screen Cutback to the Equipment Terminal
An indoor medium-voltage cable termination has two boundaries to manage: the prepared end of the screened cable and the electrical connection inside the equipment. The conductor must reach its terminal, while the insulation and screen transition must remain compatible with the termination system.
RIKI’s 8.7/10kV single-core cold shrink indoor termination range covers XLPE-insulated cables in five conductor-size groups, from 25–50 mm² to 500–630 mm². Cold shrink components contract onto the prepared cable without applied heat. The selection still depends on more than the nominal conductor area.
The Screen Cutback Is an Electrical Detail
At the end of a screened medium-voltage cable, the conductive insulation screen is removed to a specified point. This changes the electrical field distribution around the insulation. The termination arrangement must address that transition according to its approved installation instructions; an arbitrary screen-cutback length or an incorrectly positioned component can compromise the completed assembly.
Equipment Space Changes the Selection
Inside a switchgear cable compartment or another enclosed electrical assembly, available space affects cable routing and terminal access. The installation must accommodate the cable’s minimum bending radius, the lug position and the clearances required by the equipment design. The fact that a termination is intended for indoor use does not establish compatibility with every cabinet configuration.
Matching the Cable Before Ordering
Conductor cross-section identifies the relevant product size group, but buyers should also check the XLPE insulation outside diameter, cable screen construction and sheath dimensions. The conductor material and lug interface need separate attention. For an OEM or project order, a cable datasheet and the equipment connection drawing are more useful than a conductor-size figure alone.
This product terminates a single cable end at equipment; it does not join two cable lengths. It is specified for indoor applications, so exposed outdoor installations require a separately verified termination configuration.

The published conductor ranges are initial selection references. Final compatibility depends on the cable insulation diameter, screen construction, termination fit and equipment connection requirements. The indoor designation should not be used to infer outdoor installation suitability.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can an indoor cold shrink termination be installed on an exposed outdoor cable end?
Not without specific confirmation that the complete termination is suitable for the intended outdoor conditions. Indoor and outdoor cable ends can have different environmental and insulation requirements, including exposure to moisture, contamination and surface tracking. This product is offered as an indoor termination; an exposed installation should be reviewed against a separately qualified outdoor configuration.
How should the insulation screen be prepared at the cable end?
The conductive insulation screen must be removed to the dimensions specified in the installation instructions for the selected termination. Its cutback establishes an important boundary in the cable’s electrical insulation system. Cable preparation should not rely on a generic measurement taken from another manufacturer’s kit, even where the nominal voltage and conductor size are similar.
What should be checked before terminating a cable inside switchgear?
Check the available cable compartment space, the route to the equipment terminal, the required lug connection and the cable manufacturer’s bending-radius limits. The termination must also fit the prepared insulation and screen arrangement. Electrical clearances are determined by the equipment design and applicable installation requirements, not simply by the stated voltage on the accessory.
Can one termination size be used for every XLPE cable within its conductor range?
No. The catalog conductor range helps identify a possible size selection, but XLPE cables of equal conductor area may differ in insulation thickness, screen arrangement and outer dimensions. The termination’s dimensional fit must be checked against the particular cable. For project procurement, provide the cable specification rather than relying on conductor cross-section alone.
